Built by hand, on uneven ground.
Yuemei Elementary began in May 1954 as a branch of Shangping Elementary's Yuemei campus, becoming independent that August. Its founding was notably difficult: the uneven terrain of the school site was leveled by hand and ox-cart, and the earliest classrooms were built from corrugated iron with mud-and-tile construction. Today the school has developed into a bilingual experimental school.
