Built in phases to meet a growing need.
Yangming Elementary School was established in 1991, with its first phase of construction completed on December 8 of that year. Opening the school meant redrawing catchment boundaries — it absorbed students from both Zhengxing Elementary and Dongguang Elementary — and a final construction phase followed in 1997. Today the school enrolls approximately 2,068 students across 74 to 76 classes, making it one of the largest elementary schools anywhere in the Kaohsiung area. Like its junior-high namesake nearby, it likely takes its name from the Ming-dynasty philosopher Wang Yangming.

A name shared with a philosopher.
The school likely shares its name — and its neighborhood — with Yangming Junior High School nearby, both probably named for Ming-dynasty philosopher Wang Yangming. See the Kaohsiung county page for more on the region.
