A river-sandbar school with a shared history.
Xizhou Elementary opened on April 23, 1922, during the Japanese colonial era, as a branch of Qishan No. 1 Public School, and was renamed Qishan No. 2 Public School in 1925. In 1960, the school hosted the original branch campus that would later become Dazhou Junior High School, lending its classrooms before that school's own site was built. Its name, "溪洲" — meaning "river sandbar" — reflects the village's location on land formed by the Qishan River's shifting course.

🌊 A Name Shaped by the River
旗山溪沙洲地名
"溪洲" (river sandbar) directly names the geography beneath the school — land built up by the Qishan River's shifting meanders, a landscape it shares with neighboring Dazhou.
🎌 Renamed Under Japanese Rule
日治時期更名
Opening in 1922 as a branch site, the school was renamed Qishan No. 2 Public School just three years later, in 1925.
Land shaped by the Qishan River.
"溪洲" (river sandbar) reflects the village's location on land formed by the Qishan River's shifting course — the same river geography that shaped neighboring Dazhou Junior High School, whose earliest branch was hosted right here in 1960. See the Kaohsiung county page for more on the region.
