Xinmin Elementary School began in 1984 as a branch campus of neighboring Xinzhuang Elementary School, before becoming fully independent in July 1985 with 5 classes and 566 students. The school has since become known for its "Xinmin Children's Art" (新民童畫) club, and for its large, green campus grounds.
