A century-old school with roots in the colonial era.

Taiping Elementary School traces its origins to April 1, 1920, during the Japanese colonial era, when it opened as “小港公學校大坪頂分教場,” a branch classroom of Xiaogang Public School. It became an independent school in 1937 under the name “太平公學校.” The school has been renamed several times over the following decades as Taiwan's administrative eras changed, and it marked its full centennial with a commemorative volume celebrating a century of local schooling. Its name, “太平” (“great peace”), is among the most common auspicious names given to Taiwanese schools.
