Minzu Elementary School was founded in June 1981, with Hong Fang-lan appointed as its first principal in July 1982. Its name honors "Nationalism" (民族主義), one of the Three Principles of the People, and it was founded the same year as its junior-high counterpart, Minzu Junior High School. Between 2016 and 2022, the school underwent a steady series of upgrades — seismic retrofitting, a library renovation, and improvements to its athletic facilities.
民族國小創校於民國70年（1981年）6月，首任校長洪芳蘭於隔年（1982年）7月到任。校名取自「三民主義」中的「民族主義」，與同年創校的民族國中相互呼應。2016年至2022年間，校方陸續完成耐震補強、圖書館整修及體育設施升級等一系列改善工程。
