A castle at the edge of the moonscape.
Jinshan Elementary began in 1951 as a branch campus of Yanchao Elementary School, initially holding classes in borrowed private houses. Local residents donated the land for a proper campus, and the school became independent in 1965. Today it remains a very small rural school with only around 40 to 50 students, sitting at the edge of the "moonscape" (月世界) badlands near Rooster Comb Mountain.

Living beside the moonscape.
Kaohsiung's "moonscape" (月世界) badlands — barren, eroded mudstone hills near Rooster Comb Mountain — form a striking natural backdrop for Jinshan Elementary, which uses the terrain as an outdoor-education resource. See the Kaohsiung county page for more on the region.
