Formed by a 1970 merger of two branches.

Jianshan Elementary School began in 1951 as a branch campus of Taoyuan Elementary School. In 1970, it merged with another branch campus, (Xingzhong Branch Class), and became an independent school under the name 'Jianshan National Elementary School.' (Note: sources describe the 興中分班 branch as folded into Jianshan at this point and ceasing to exist separately — yet a school called Xingzhong Elementary exists today nearby; no source we found explains how or when that later school was re-established, so this page presents only what is confirmed for Jianshan itself.) The school was designated an Indigenous-focus school in 2004, added a new administration building in 1990, and rebuilt its older classrooms in 1997. It serves a Bunun Indigenous community along the mountain highway corridor.
