Heping Elementary was founded on August 1, 1985, one of the newer elementary schools in Gangshan District. It opened as the district's urban population expanded through the 1980s, giving it a name rooted in the aspirational ideal of "peace" (和平) rather than a historic local place name, as many of its older neighboring schools carry.
和平國小創立於民國74年（1985年）8月1日，是岡山區較新設立的國小之一。學校成立於1980年代岡山都市人口擴張之際，校名採用「和平」這個理想化的名稱，而非如許多鄰近老校般沿用地方傳統地名。
