Built for overflow, remembered for science.
Guanghua Elementary began preparations in 1967-68 and completed its first building in February 1970, with staff and students relocating from the overcrowded Wuquan Elementary School. It was founded to relieve pressure on three neighboring schools — Wuquan, Aiqun, and Lequn Elementary — as Cianjhen rapidly transformed from farmland into dense residential neighborhoods in the late 1960s and 1970s. In 1985, the school placed first regionally in a physics science fair.

The school's 1970 opening reflects the district's rapid shift from farmland to dense residential neighborhoods in the late 1960s and 70s.
One school among several born of overflow.
Guanghua's founding is part of a chain of schools built to absorb Cianjhen's overflowing population as the district shifted from farmland to dense housing in the late 1960s and 70s — a pattern repeated across several of the district's elementary schools. See the Kaohsiung county page for more on the region.
