Over a century in Hunei District.
Dahu Elementary was founded on November 10, 1901 (Meiji 34), during the Japanese colonial era, as Dahu Public School — making it one of the oldest schools in Hunei District. It was renamed Changzhi Public School in 1917, reverted to Dahu Public School in 1933, became Dahu National School in 1941, and took its present name, Dahu Elementary School, in 1968. The school celebrated its centennial in 2000 and has now passed 120 years of continuous operation.

An early root of Hunei's schools.
As one of the earliest public schools established in what is now Hunei District, Dahu Elementary's history predates many of the administrative changes that later shaped the district — a living link to the earliest years of formal schooling in this once lagoon-fringed farming region. See the Kaohsiung county page for more on the region.
