Where Keelung's modern education history begins.
Xinyi Elementary's origins trace to the "Keelung Japanese Language Institute," founded September 16, 1896 — one of the earliest modern schools established in Keelung, and regarded by many as the starting point of the city's modern education history. The school was renamed multiple times under Japanese rule, then in 1945 merged with the neighboring Futaba National School to form "Ren'ai No.1 National School." In 1947 it split back apart to become Xinyi National School, and it took its current name, Xinyi Elementary, in 1968.
