A school that started with borrowed classrooms.
Kangling Elementary traces its roots to the Japanese-era "Shikishima Ordinary Higher Elementary School," established in 1938. The school reopened under Taiwanese administration on April 1, 1947, under its first postwar principal, Cheng Chin-feng. It initially had no campus building of its own, borrowing classrooms from Nanwang, Fengli, and Beinan schools until it could establish a permanent site. Renamed in 1968, the school completed a new campus in 2017 with expanded kindergarten space.

🏫 Roots in a 1938 Japanese School
前身為敷島尋常高等小學校
The school's predecessor, "Shikishima Ordinary Higher Elementary School," opened in 1938 under Japanese rule, before the campus reopened under its postwar identity in 1947.
🤝 Built on Borrowed Classrooms
草創初期借用鄰校教室
With no campus of its own at first, the reopened school borrowed classrooms from Nanwang, Fengli, and Beinan schools — a resourceful start shared by several of Taitung's postwar schools.
🏗️ A Modern Campus, 2017
2017年新校舍落成
A newly completed campus in 2017 expanded the school's kindergarten facilities, part of a long modernization since its postwar founding.
A name that echoes Taitung's layered history.
The school's Japanese-era predecessor name, "敷島" (Shikishima), reflects Taitung City's layered Han-Japanese-Indigenous settlement history on the Puyuma/Amis coastal plain. See the Taitung county page for more on the region.
