A hidden village school with a national spotlight.
Jinyang Elementary was founded in 1921 during the Japanese colonial era as the "Class-A Aboriginal Children's Education Institute," and was renamed in 1947 and again in 1968. The school sits upstream along the Nan'ao South River, in an especially remote and scenic setting sometimes described as an "idyllic hidden village." Its student body is majority Atayal Indigenous, and in 2024 the school won top honors in the national student creative drama competition's elementary stage-play category.
