From a Qing-dynasty academy to a modern school.
Jinxue Elementary School was founded on April 8, 1919 as "Tainan No. 3 Public School" (臺南第三公學校). Its original site stood on the west side of the Tainan Confucius Temple, on the grounds of the former Haidong Academy (海東書院), a prominent Qing-dynasty Confucian academy — giving the school a direct institutional lineage from classical Confucian education. Renamed "Suehiro Public School" in 1928, the school relocated to its current site in 1930 due to space constraints. Its campus buildings were destroyed by Allied bombing near the end of World War II; a courtyard coconut palm reportedly still bears visible bomb-fragment scars from that era.
