Jinhu Junior High was founded in 1965 as "Kinmen County Jinhu Junior Vocational School," renamed "Kinmen County Jinhu Junior Middle School" in 1966, and became "Jinhu Junior High School" in 1968. In 1974 it merged with Jinhu Elementary to pilot a combined nine-year "experimental school," dropping the word "experimental" from its name in 1977 once the trial concluded. The junior high division formally separated again in 1993, and the school relocated to its current campus in February 1998.
金湖國中創立於民國54年（1965年），初名「金門縣立金湖初級職業學校」，民國55年（1966年）更名為「金門縣立金湖初級中學」，民國57年（1968年）改為「金湖國民中學」。民國63年（1974年），與金湖國小合併試辦九年一貫「實驗學校」，至民國66年（1977年）試辦結束後去除「實驗」二字。民國82年（1993年）國中部再度獨立，並於民國87年（1998年）2月遷入現址。
