Jingzhong Elementary started life on August 1, 1974, as the "Linsen Elementary School Jingzhong Branch," drawing its first three first-grade classes from the Linsen school district. It became an independent school on August 1, 1978, with 13 classes, and was renamed Chiayi City Jingzhong Elementary School in 1982 when Chiayi City became a provincial city. The school's buildings underwent a major renovation completed in December 2014.
精忠國小的前身是民國63年(1974年)8月1日設立的「林森國小精忠分校」,首屆招收林森學區三班一年級新生。民國67年(1978年)8月1日獨立設校,共13班。民國71年(1982年)嘉義市改制為省轄市後,更名為嘉義市精忠國民小學。校舍於民國103年(2014年)12月完成大規模整建。
