From water-bamboo fields to Jingmei's first junior high.
Jingmei Junior High School was founded in 1968 as the first public junior high school in the Jingmei area, created to meet Taiwan's new nine-year compulsory education reform. Construction began in April 1968, and a four-story building was substantially complete by late August — classes started in early September the same year.
The school was built on what had been low-lying, flood-prone land historically used to grow water bamboo (筊白筍) along the Jingmei River floodplain. Former neighbors on the site included an early apartment block and a chemical factory, since redeveloped into Jingxing Park and the Minsheng Market building.
