A school renamed to carry a people's name forward.
What is now Kabuasua Elementary began in 1954 as a branch school of nearby Shengxian Elementary, becoming an independent school in August 1957 (民國46年). On August 1, 2010, it was renamed to its current Siraya name, "吉貝耍" (Ka-bua-sua) — a Siraya (Pingpu plains-indigenous) word meaning roughly "place of the kapok/silk-cotton tree." It was the first school in Taiwan officially renamed after a Pingpu plains-indigenous community, and only the second school nationwide named for any indigenous group. The school runs ongoing cultural-asset and heritage-education programs tied to local Siraya traditions.
