📜 A Name Rooted in Local History
地名歷史淵源
Jiaxian's name is believed to derive from a Hoklo contraction of "Kalala," an old exonym for local Indigenous groups, combined with characters describing the river valley and its plain.
A valley of layered settlement history.
Jiasian, formerly called "Jiaxianpu" (甲仙埔), sits in the Nanzixian River valley — historically hunting ground of the Cou (a Kanakanavu-related people) and later settled by Siraya and Taivoan (大武壠) communities. See the Kaohsiung county page for more on the region.
