One school, an entire mountainous township.

Jianshi Junior High opened in 1956 as a branch class of Hsinchu County Zhudong Junior High School, becoming fully independent around 1969–1970. Its current campus buildings were completed in June 2011. As the only junior high school in Jianshi Township — a district covering 528 square kilometers, roughly 37% of Hsinchu County's total land area, and home to about 9,500 residents, most of them Atayal Indigenous people — the school serves students from across the township's scattered mountain communities. It was designated an Indigenous-focus key school in 1998, and since 2013 has developed an Atayal-based curriculum that formally became the Atayal Experimental Education program in 2020.
