The “whale elementary school” by the sea.
Jialu Elementary School was founded on April 1, 1945, near the end of the Japanese colonial era, as a branch site of Fengkang School. Just months later, following Taiwan's retrocession, it became independent as Kaohsiung County Fangshan Township Jialu National School on December 1, 1945. The school has since become widely known across Taiwan media as one of the country's “most beautiful schools” — its old school building was renovated into a strikingly scenic campus, nicknamed the “whale elementary school,” sitting less than 10 meters from the coastline with an open ocean view. It operates two campuses: the main Jialu campus and a Fangshan branch campus.

Fangshan, Taiwan's mango kingdom.
Fangshan Township is Taiwan's most famous mango-growing region, nicknamed the “mango kingdom” — Irwin (愛文) mangoes here benefit from long sun exposure and large day-night temperature swings, producing exceptionally sweet, high-quality fruit sold April through July. The township is Taiwan's narrowest and longest, just 500 meters to 1 kilometer wide but 30 kilometers long, comprising the three settlements of Fengkang, Fangshan, and Jialu.
