Local Culture · 在地文化

Rooted in Jiadong's Hakka farming heritage.

🏡

Jiadong Township (佳冬鄉) is a historic Hakka farming community, home to the Xiao family mansion (蕭家古厝, built 1846) — Taiwan's only surviving five-hall six-courtyard Hakka walled compound — and long known for its well-preserved traditional Hakka architecture. Jiadong Junior High serves the broad farming population of this township, carrying that Hakka heritage forward into its students' secondary education. See the Pingtung county page for more on the region.
