Huxi Elementary School

Huxi Elementary was founded in 1903 as "Huxi Public School," renamed "Huxi No. 1 Public School" in 1921, "Huxi National School" in 1941, "Huxi National Elementary School" in 1946, and its current name in 1968. As the oldest and central school of the township, nearly all other schools in Huxi were originally founded as its branches. Its original schoolhouse was destroyed by a typhoon in 1912, but the community came together to rebuild it, completing the work by 1913. The school published a special 100th-anniversary commemorative volume, "湖西百歲" ("A Century of Huxi"), and its school district covers seven villages.

湖西國小創立於明治36年（1903年），初名「湖西公學校」，民國10年（1921年）改名「湖西第一公學校」，民國30年（1941年）改為「湖西國民學校」，民國35年（1946年）改為「湖西國民學校」，民國57年（1968年）定名為現名。作為湖西鄉歷史最悠久的核心學校，鄉內幾乎所有其他學校最初皆為其分校。原校舍於民國元年（1912年）遭颱風摧毀，社區同心協力於隔年（1913年）完成重建。學校曾出版百年校慶紀念專書《湖西百歲》，學區涵蓋七個村里。
