Named for a scholar, facing his legacy.
Hu Shih Elementary opened on August 1, 1979, after a preparatory office was established the previous year under director Fan Zhen-qing, then principal of Jiuzhuang Elementary; Li Ke-xiong served as founding principal. The school is named to commemorate philosopher and scholar Hu Shih (胡適), former president of Academia Sinica, and sits at the intersection of Yanjiuyuan Road Sec. 2 and Jiuzhuang Street Sec. 1, directly facing Academia Sinica and near Hu Shih Memorial Park, where Hu Shih is buried.
