Huashan Elementary School was formally established on July 1, 1998. Its campus sits at the historic boundary where the former Kaohsiung County and Kaohsiung City once met, before the two were merged into a single special municipality in 2010. 華山國小於民國87年（1998年）7月1日正式創校。校址座落於原高雄縣與高雄市的交界地帶——這兩個行政區於2010年合併升格為直轄市之前，曾是各自獨立的行政區劃。與周邊許多學校相同，華山國小的學生人數隨時間逐漸減少，從2008年約683人降至2022至2023學年度約480人，反映了台灣少子化的整體趨勢。
