Eastern Taiwan's first secondary school for girls.

National Hualien Girls' Senior High School traces its history back to 1927, when it opened under Japanese rule as Karenko Prefectural Girls' High School — the very first secondary school established anywhere in eastern Taiwan, initially serving mostly Japanese students. Its current campus on Jinghua Street has stood since 1930. The school became a national institution in 2000 and has weathered the region's natural challenges, including damage from the 2024 Hualien earthquake, while continuing to educate generations of young women under a school motto of warmth, respect, diligence, and frugality.
