An aviation-academy school's long journey to Taipei.
Huaisheng Elementary School has an unusually long and winding history. It was founded in 1934 in Hangzhou's Jianqiao Xingcun (筧橋醒村) as the children's school of China's Central Aviation Academy (中央航空學校), then relocated repeatedly across China during wartime before re-establishing in Taipei in 1949. It was renamed "Huaisheng" ("懷生") by President Chiang Kai-shek personally in 1967, when the school came under Taipei City government administration.
The school moved from its original Da'an District site — which became Huaisheng Junior High School — to its present Andong Street site in Zhongshan District in 1972. Underground facilities and a railway overpass were completed in 1974, tying the school into central Taipei's mid-century wave of school construction as the city's population and infrastructure kept expanding northeast.

The school relocated from Da'an District to its present Andong Street site in 1972, with underground facilities and a railway overpass completed by 1974.
A wartime story that landed in Zhongshan.
Though its roots trace to a wartime aviation-academy school in mainland China, Huaisheng's 1972 move into Zhongshan District ties it into the district's mid-century wave of school construction as central Taipei's population and infrastructure kept expanding northeast. See the Taipei county page for more on the region.
