The only school of its name in Taiwan.
Houhong Elementary was founded in 1964, serving the historic Houhong settlement in Gangshan District. It holds a distinctive claim in Taiwan's education landscape: it is the only school in the entire country named "Houhong." The settlement itself was historically divided into "Upper Houhong" and "Lower Houhong," and was not administratively split into separate Bihong and Houhong villages until 1982 — nearly two decades after the school had already opened.
