A century of names, one community.
Guangfu Elementary traces its roots to 1924, when it opened under Japanese rule as "Matai'an Public School," taking its name from the Amis settlement it served. The school was renamed several times through the final years of colonial rule and again after Taiwan's 1945 retrocession, settling on its current name in 1968. In 1995 it established dedicated sports classes, and today it runs special soccer and baseball programs that have become part of the school's identity.

🌾 Named for the Matai'an Community
The school's original name honored Matai'an (Fata'an), the historic Amis settlement it was built to serve — a name still closely tied to the surrounding wetland and community today.
At the heart of Matai'an.
Guangfu Elementary is named for and centered in Guangfu Township, home to the Matai'an (Fata'an) Amis community and the Matai'an Wetland — famous across Taiwan for traditional Amis fish-trap fishing methods (patinaan) and wetland ecology. The school's history is inseparable from this community's.
