Older than the university, older than the highway.
Fengli Elementary began in 1913 under Japanese rule as the "Hualien Port Prefecture Toyota Ordinary Higher Elementary School" — a school originally built exclusively for the children of Japanese settlers in the "Toyota" immigrant farming village (today's Fengtian/Fengli area). After Taiwan's 1945 retrocession the school was renamed, and it took its current name in 1968. Over 110 years old, it predates both National Dong Hwa University and today's mixed Amis and Han population that now calls the area home.

📅 Over 110 Years of History
Fengli Elementary predates both National Dong Hwa University and Shoufeng's modern mixed community, making it one of the township's oldest continuously operating schools.
A Japanese-era farming village's legacy.
Fengli's roots trace back to Toyota (豐田), one of several Japanese-era immigrant farming villages established across Hualien in the early 1900s. Its preserved historic auditorium is a rare physical trace of that era, standing now within Shoufeng Township's modern mixed community.
