Named for a fallen Air Force officer.
Hesheng Elementary traces its origin to 1948, when it opened as the "Pingtung Air Force Children's School," established under the Air Force Headquarters as it relocated from Xuzhou with the national government — initially borrowing classroom space from neighboring Ren'ai Elementary before moving to its current site in 1953. In August 1968, the school was renamed "Pingtung County Hesheng Elementary School" to commemorate Air Force martyr Lin Hesheng, whose bronze statue still stands on campus today. As of the 2022–23 school year, Hesheng was one of the largest elementary schools among Pingtung City's neighborhood schools, with 45 classes, 1,228 students, 80 teachers, 6 staff, and 2 janitors. The school's longest-serving principal, Zhang Hongzhong, led the school for 27 years, from 1953 to 1980 — the longest tenure in its history.
