Hengshan Elementary School

Hengshan Elementary opened in 1912 during the Japanese colonial era as a branch of Shuqilin Public School — the predecessor of today's Zhudong Elementary School — before becoming independent in 1921 as Hengshan Public School and taking its present name in 1968. Its roots trace even further back to a reform-era study room that once operated at the Hengshan Guowang Temple. As the school sharing its name with Hengshan Township itself, it sits at the historic center of the community along the old Neiwan branch railway corridor, and celebrated its centennial in 2011.

橫山國小創立於1912年（日治時期），最初為樹杞林公學校（今竹東國小前身）的分校，1921年獨立設校為橫山公學校，1968年更為現名。校史淵源更可追溯至曾設於橫山國王廟的漢學研習所。作為與橫山鄉同名的學校，橫山國小座落於社區的歷史核心地帶，緊鄰內灣支線鐵路走廊，並於2011年舉辦建校百週年慶典。
