Where the island's classrooms run out.
National Hengchun Vocational High School was established in 1955 as a vocational extension of a local junior middle school, then moved to its current campus in 1968 when the provincial government created eleven new senior high schools across Taiwan. Widely described as "Taiwan's southernmost high school," it now enrolls around 682 students across programs including General Studies, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Data Processing, Tourism, Culinary Management/Technology, Information Technology, and a Comprehensive Vocational Skills track. The roughly 78,557-square-meter campus includes a school-run training hotel, giving tourism and hospitality students hands-on experience just minutes from Taiwan's most famous beach resort area.

Inside Taiwan's historic walled town.
Hengchun Town is home to Taiwan's best-preserved walled old city, built in 1875, whose four historic gates still frame the streets of the town center. Hengchun also serves as the main gateway to Kenting National Park, the island's most famous beach and marine-tourism destination — which is exactly why the vocational school's Tourism, Culinary, and Hospitality programs exist: to train the workforce for the resorts, restaurants, and attractions that visitors encounter the moment they pass through the old city gates. See the Pingtung county page for more on the region.
