From girls' school to coeducational campus.

Guting Junior High School was founded in 1960 as "Taipei Municipal Guting Girls' Junior High School," a girls-only institution. It was renamed "Taipei Municipal Guting Girls' National Junior High School" in 1968 with the introduction of nine-year compulsory education, and finally became fully coeducational as "Taipei Municipal Guting Junior High School" in 1991. The school's three name changes track a broader shift in Taiwan's public education system, from single-sex to coeducational schooling. In 1994 the school established a dedicated fine-arts class (美術班), which remains one of its signature programs today.
