Over a century in Kaohsiung's first modern district.

Gushan Elementary School was founded on May 24, 1907, as Takao Ordinary Higher Elementary School (打狗尋常高等小學校), originally established for the children of Japanese officials and merchants. With more than 111 years of history, it is the third-oldest elementary school in Kaohsiung. The school sits in the historic Hamasen (哈瑪星) railway hub area, one of Kaohsiung's first modernized districts under Japanese rule, and its own renaming history — from Takao, to Kaohsiung No. 1, to Minato-machi, to Minato — traces the port city's shifting administrative names over the decades.
