Beishan Junior High School was founded in 1969 on the initiative of then-county-magistrate Lin Yang-kang, who personally scouted the school's site along the Zhongtan Highway. Its original school district served five elementary schools across the area. The campus was severely damaged in the 1999 921 earthquake and rebuilt as part of the Tzu Chi Foundation's well-documented "Hope Project" (希望工程), which reconstructed dozens of earthquake-damaged schools across central Taiwan.
北山國中創校於民國58年（1969年），由時任縣長林洋港親自勘察校地，設校於中潭公路沿線。學區原服務五所國小的畢業生。校舍在1999年921大地震中嚴重受損，其後在慈濟基金會「希望工程」計畫下完成重建——該計畫在中台灣重建了數十所震損學校，留下詳實紀錄。
