An Indigenous-focus school rebuilt from the ground up.
Beimei Junior High School began in 1975 as a branch of Guoxing Junior High School, becoming independent in 1979. It was formally designated a remote/mountain-area junior high in 1993. The school's buildings were completely destroyed in the 1999 921 earthquake and rebuilt by 2001. Beimei is designated an Indigenous-focus school — as of 2018, 56% of its students were Indigenous, mostly Seediq — and its campus sits beside the Nuomi ("Glutinous Rice") suspension bridge, a local landmark.
