From agricultural school to bilingual senior high.
National Dongshi Senior High School traces its history back to September 1, 1926, when it opened as Tainan Prefecture's Dongshi Agricultural Vocational School during the Japanese colonial era. Through a series of name and status changes, it became Taiwan Provincial Dongshi Senior High School in 1968 and was elevated to a national-level school in 2000. Despite its name, the campus sits in Puzi City rather than Dongshi itself. Today it offers full academic and vocational/technical tracks alongside bilingual experimental classes and math/science experimental classes, along with a maker lab, and recently celebrated a century of history.

🎉 A Century of History
Given its 1926 founding, the school marked its centennial with celebrations of "a century of splendor" (世紀風華), a milestone few Taiwan senior highs can claim.
Rooted in the Dongshi/Puzi coastal plain.
Despite bearing the Dongshi name, the school actually sits in Puzi City near Dongshi Township. Its agricultural-vocational origins reflect the long farming and fishing economy of the Dongshi/Puzi coastal plain, an area that has for generations relied on rice cultivation and oyster and fish aquaculture. See the Chiayi county page for more on the region.
