Rebuilt again and again on a frontline battlefield.
Guning Elementary traces its origins to 1913, when it opened as "Guning Private Higher Elementary School," originally housed inside the Li clan's ancestral temple. Its history since has been marked by remarkable resilience: the school building was destroyed in 1949 during the Battle of Guningtou, one of the most famous engagements in Kinmen's frontline military history, and the school endured further disruption and relocation through the 1954 "9-3" artillery battle and the 1958 "8-23" artillery battle, at times using ancestral shrines as makeshift classrooms. In 1953 it was renamed "Guning Model National Elementary School" in recognition of its educational excellence, a name that has stayed with the school as it rebuilt and carried on serving the Guningtou community.
