Guishan Elementary was founded on April 1, 1918, under Japanese colonial rule as 'Guilongkou Public School' (龜崙口公學校). It was renamed 'Guishan Public School' in 1929, converted to 'Guishan National School' in 1941, and took its present name, 'Guishan National Elementary School,' in 1968 with the extension of compulsory education. As the oldest public school in Guishan District, it is the historical parent school of at least four other elementary schools that split off as independent institutions over the 20th century: Dagang (1922), Longshou (1946), Fuyuan (1961), and Shoushan (1963).
龜山國小創立於日治時期1918年4月1日，初名「龜崙口公學校」；1929年更名「龜山公學校」，1941年改制為「龜山國民學校」，1968年隨九年國教實施更名為現名「龜山國民小學」。作為龜山區歷史最悠久的公立學校，本校是至少四所國小的發源母校——包括1922年獨立的大崗、1946年的龍壽、1961年的福源，以及1963年的壽山國小。
