A name built from two villages.
Gucheng Elementary was formed in 1963 from the 1962 merger of two schools: Gugang School, a private village academy in Gugang, and Old Kinmen City Elementary. Its name combines "Gu" (古) from Gugang village and "Cheng" (城) from Jinmen Cheng, or "Old Kinmen City" — reflecting both of its founding communities. The school today partners with three local communities: Gugang, Jinmen City, and Qianshuitou, and sits in one of Kinmen's oldest historic settlement areas.

🏛️ Roots in a Private Village Academy
源自私立村校
One of its predecessor schools began life as a private academy in Gugang village before the 1962 merger that eventually formed today's Gucheng Elementary.
Old Kinmen City, the island's original walled county seat.
The school sits in and is named after 金門城 (Old Kinmen City), the original walled Ming-dynasty county seat of Kinmen — a direct tie to the island's historic Minnan-era fortification and settlement heritage. See the Kinmen county page for more on the region.
