A later addition to an old lineage.
Guanmiao Junior High School was established around 1968, when Taiwan extended compulsory education to nine years — though an exact founding date has not been confirmed in available records. The school is closely tied to its much older sister institution, Guanmiao Elementary School, which traces its roots to 1899 as a schoolhouse inside the district's Guandi Temple, the very temple that gives Guanmiao ("Guan[di] Temple") District its name. The junior high keeps a dedicated school-history microsite documenting its own development, and its campus sits in the historic district seat, close to the temple itself.

🏫 A Twentieth-Century Addition
承接百年校史脈絡
Guanmiao Junior High grew out of the same educational lineage as the district's 1899-founded Guanmiao Elementary, becoming a later addition once nine-year compulsory education began.

🎋 Rooted in Bamboo-Shoot Country
扎根綠竹筍之鄉
Most students come from farming or noodle-making households in a district whose economy and identity are built on bamboo-shoot cultivation and the noodles that share Guanmiao's name.
Bamboo shoots and noodles, town and school.
Guanmiao District's economy and identity for generations have centered on bamboo-shoot (綠竹筍) farming and the production of Guanmiao noodles (關廟麵), which take the town's own name. Most students at the junior high grow up in farming or noodle-making families, so the rhythms of the bamboo groves and noodle workshops that ring the town are part of daily life for the whole school community. See the Tainan county page for more on the region.
