Founded inside the temple that named the district.

Guanmiao Elementary School was founded in 1899, initially as "Guandi Temple Public School" (關帝廟公學校), using the Guandi Temple itself as its first schoolhouse — a direct link to the temple that gave Guanmiao District its name. It was renamed multiple times through the Japanese and postwar periods, becoming Guanmiao Public School in 1921, Guanmiao National School in 1941, and taking its current name, Guanmiao Elementary School, in 1968. New buildings on the current site were completed in 1931. As the oldest and largest school in the district, it is effectively the "mother school" from which several other Guanmiao-area elementary schools, including Xinguang and Shenkeng, originally split off as branch classrooms.

⛩️

Its founding inside the Guandi Temple directly ties the school to the temple worship of Guan Yu that gives Guanmiao District (literally "Guan[di] Temple District") its name — arguably the most concrete school–place-name connection anywhere in the district. See the Tainan county page for more on the region.
