Born from a 1990s population boom.
Guangming Junior High traces its roots to a preparatory office set up in 1996 at Jinxing Elementary School, formally opening as an independent junior high in 1999 to absorb the rapid population growth of Nankan in the 1990s — enrollment in the catchment area grew more than 166% between 1992 and 2001. Renamed to its current name in 2014, the school today enrolls about 1,500 students across 54 classes and runs English gifted classes (since 2016) and math/science gifted classes (since 2017). It won the Ministry of Education's Reading Stone Award in 2020.

A record of Nankan's fast suburbanization.
Guangming Junior High exists because of Nankan's transformation from a farm township into a Taoyuan-airport-adjacent commuter suburb. As new housing filled in the historic Nankan area through the 1990s, the neighborhood's school-age population outgrew existing schools, and Guangming was built to absorb the overflow — a direct architectural record of Luzhu's fast suburbanization near the capital region and the airport corridor. See the Taoyuan county page for more on the region.
