Health, happiness, and growth.
Guanghua Elementary began in 1970 as a branch class of Daoxiang Elementary, was upgraded to a branch school in 1972, and became fully independent in 1977. Guided by the motto "Health, Happiness, Growth," the school briefly operated a satellite branch in the Yanliao area of neighboring Shoufeng Township from 1989 to 1993, an unusual arrangement that has since been dissolved — a small but telling example of how Hualien's rural schools have adapted their footprint to follow where students actually live.

A suburb shaped by growth and change.
Guanghua's history of branching and rebranching reflects Ji'an Township's role as a fast-growing suburb of Hualien City, where school boundaries and enrollment patterns have shifted repeatedly as the population expanded. See the Hualien county page for more on the region.
