Built by the community it serves.
Guangfu Junior High opened in 1962 as a branch of Fenglin Junior High, becoming independent in 1965 and taking its current name in 1968. Its campus was built partly on land donated from Guangfu Elementary School's agricultural practice field, with construction funded in part by a grassroots "rice bucket movement" fundraising drive among local residents. As of 2024, about 67% of its roughly 176 students are Indigenous, mostly Amis, and the school quickly restored normal operations after the September 2023 Matai'an Creek dammed-lake overflow event that affected the area.

🌊 Resilience After the Matai'an Overflow
After the September 2023 Matai'an Creek dammed-lake overflow event disrupted the area, the school moved quickly to restore normal classes, a mark of the community's resilience.
🪶 A Majority-Amis Student Body
About two-thirds of students are Indigenous, mostly Amis, placing the school at the center of Guangfu's Indigenous community life.
Beside the Matai'an Wetland.
Guangfu Junior High sits near the Matai'an Wetland (馬太鞍濕地), home to the Matai'an (Fata'an) Amis community — one of Hualien's largest and best-known Amis settlements, famous for traditional fishing methods and wetland ecology. With a majority-Amis student body, the school is deeply woven into that community's daily life.
