From a postwar private school to a public junior high.
Gongguan Junior High traces its lineage back to 1946, when it began as the private "Xinmin Junior Middle School" (新民初級中學) shortly after the end of World War II. The school became county-run in 1961, and was reorganized as a national junior high school in 1968. This long institutional history makes Gongguan one of Miaoli County's older secondary schools, with roots reaching back to the earliest years of postwar Taiwan.
