A century of growing alongside its village.
Gongguan Elementary School was founded in 1917, during the Japanese colonial era, and took its current name in 1968. In recent years the school celebrated its 100th anniversary, marking a full century of educating the children of Zhuangwei's coastal farming villages. Its food-education program is a particular point of pride: students grow produce and harvest radishes themselves, connecting classroom learning directly to the agricultural life of the surrounding community. The school also fields a competitive table tennis team.

Where school and farm meet.
As a century-old school in Zhuangwei's coastal farmland, Gongguan's food-education curriculum directly reflects the township's identity as a peanut- and vegetable-growing region. See the Yilan county page for more on the region.
