A century of educating young women.
Kaohsiung Girls' Senior High School traces its founding to 1924, when it opened as Kaohsiung Prefectural Kaohsiung Girls' Higher School (高雄州立高雄高等女學校) under Japanese rule. It was renamed Taiwan Provincial Kaohsiung First Girls' Middle School in 1945 after the war, and later took its current name once Kaohsiung became a special municipality. In 2024 the school marked a full century of educating young women, celebrating alongside its long-standing counterpart, Kaohsiung Senior High School. Today it enrolls roughly 2,250 students across 63 classes, making it one of the larger academic senior highs in central Kaohsiung.

A landmark of Cianjin's Japanese-era schooling boom.
Kaohsiung Girls' Senior High's 1924 founding tracks the same wave of Japanese-era girls' schools built as the old port town of Takao was formally renamed “Kaohsiung” in 1920, part of a broader colonial-era push to expand secondary education in the growing city. See the Kaohsiung county page for more on the region.
